Storage — When is it too much?

39.47TiB

Yeah, okay, so I might have too much disk space right now...

14.96TiB on my main workstation, 2.798 TiB NVMe, plus 11.9TiB SMR spinners. Non-redundant non-RAID, but everything is backed up or can be trivially replaced (Steam games, cough Linux Distros, and such).

SMR is slow to write lots of data at once, but they work fine vs any other spinning rust for reads and small amounts of writes in a short period of time. Cloning one 8TiB drive to another was a long and painful process, as expected.

24.83TiB on the network, all redundant (RAID-1), with local snapshots, and important content backed up to cloud storage including snapshots going back a year.
